In 1973 Tom Scholl was still in college when he started his Bridgeview based paving business installing small driveways in the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago. Back then his motto was "the best job at he right price." Thirty four years later his company still paves driveways but with an added twist. He can transform drab, black driveways and streets into exquisitely detailed decorative pavement, in many different colors and designs. His new motto is "We are changing the streets of Chicagoland 'back to brick'!"
Tom performs this feat utilizing state of the art, specially designed infra-red equipment and the most advanced coatings in the world to produce driveway designs that rival and surpass in detail and beauty the more expensive hand laid brick and stamped concrete driveways. He has installed over four million square feet of stamped asphalt, which is called StreetPrint Pavement Texturing on residential, commercial, and municipal projects in the Chicagoland area. The StreetPrint process Tom has pioneered has been called one of the most revolutionary developments in the history of the asphalt paving industry.
Anyone who drives by the Bridgeview Village Hall (75th and Oketo) can see an example of his work in the giant 30 foot diameter, custom designed circle gracing the entrance to the Village Hall. He has installed over 45 various municipal StreetPrint projects from small crosswalks to entire downtown streets in Villages such as Mokena, Tinley Park and Blue Island, Illinois. He introduced the StreetPrint process to the City of Chicago and his process can now be seen in scores of intersections in the Windy City. The Chicago and Illinois Departments of Transportation have approved his process and utilized his experience on a number of projects in the state.
He still installs residential driveways as well as larger StreetPrint projects in the Chicagoland area and brings a wealth of experience and talent to any project. His latest projects includes a specially designed inlaid thermoplastic decorative pavement called DuraTherm for high traffic installations. He is also famous for his development of StreetPrint Speed Tables, or traffic calming berms, which slow traffic in front of schools and busy streets. In thirty four years of paving he still installs asphalt the old fashioned way, "black side up" as well as offering his amazing multi-colored "Street sculpting" designs which leaves entire neighborhood streets a work of art!
He has had to retool the name of his company due to the success of the stamped asphalt process and added the phrase: "International StreetPrint Consultants." His experience in stamped asphalt technology has lead to his participation in overseas projects in Israel, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. His technical articles have been translated and published into Spanish, Hebrew and Arabic technical manuals. There are not too many paving contractors in the Chicago area with that degree of experience. His expertise has also been tapped by the United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO). |
